Future Church - ​Symposium 2021

8th May 2021 Programme of talks:

We are pleased to announce that this year's Faith & Thought Symposium was once again free to all and took place online on Saturday 8th May from 10:30am.   Each video is about 35 minutes long to allow for breaks in the programme.  See below for more details and follow the links to view each of the talks.

1. ‘Re-wilding the church eco-system'
Rev Dr Dave Gregory - Croxley Green Baptist Church
Dave is the team leader of Croxley Green Baptist Church and served as Baptist Union President in 2018-19.  Before he was called as a minister he worked in research at the Met Office and European Weather Centre for 15 years, specialising in how clouds affect weather forecasting and climate prediction.

2.  ‘Shaping the Future Church'
Rev Dr Mark Collinson
Mark is the Director of Ministry for the Winchester Diocese School of Mission.  He spent nearly 14 years in the Netherlands developing a vision for new Anglican church plants. From 2015 to 2020 he was Canon Principal of the School of Mission and residentiary canon of Winchester Cathedral.  He has recently completed his PhD in Anglican Ecclesiology and Missiology.

3.  ‘Musical Worship and Lockdown'
Dr Alan Kerry
Alan is worship coordinator at Croxley Green Baptist Church and administrator of Faith & Thought.  He has spent the last year producing a significant amount of digital content during the COVID-19 Lockdowns and has conducted a short observational survey looking at how other churches have responded to this challenge.   Will our future church services be changed forever by what we have learned in going online?

4.  ‘Shifting Convictions: Women's equality and views from below'
Rev Gale Richards
Gale is the minster of Zion Baptist Church, and an associate chaplain at Anglia Ruskin University. 
She is author of the Text and Story, Prophets for their time and ours Bible study resource (2014). She was also a member of the editorial team, and a contributor to two books, Journeying to Justice – Contributions to the Baptist tradition across the Black Atlantic (2017); and 
Gathering up the Crumbs - a collection of original worship material to mark the centenary of Baptist women’s ordination (2020).

  3. To approve the re-election of the:
    1. President (Sir Colin Humphreys),
    2. Vice-Presidents (Prof. Malcolm A. Jeeves, Prof. Kenneth Kitchen, Prof. Alan Millard, Prof. J. W. Montgomery),
    3. Honorary Treasurer (Rev John Buxton),
    4. Council (Rev. Bob Allaway, Rev. John Buxton, Dr Alan Kerry, Mrs Joanne Mead, Prof Meric Srokosz (ex officio))
  4. To approve the election Rev Dr Sally Nelson as Council Member and Trustee for Faith & Thought. Sally is a Baptist minister with a first degree in chemistry, and who has held several pastorates and chaplaincy posts. Currently she is Dean of Baptist Formation at St Hild College, Yorkshire, where she teaches Doctrine and Pastoral Care. Her research interests are in narrative and suffering, and disability theology.
  5. The annual accounts, which are available on the website, will be presented by the Hon. Treasurer, Rev. John Buxton, for approval and to appoint auditors.
  6. Symposium 2022 - we are planning a symposium to consider ‘Faith and Fiction’
